Removing the current businesses currently spanning the river east of Downtown Café on Main St. This would include Tinty’s, NAPA and Stately Floors. Seeing as Tintys is closed that would involve buying the property. NAPA and Stately would need $$ incentives to move. This alone would open 100 yards or so of river and bring a true River Walk to Main St. The current Downtown Café would then have waterfront to have a brewhouse along the river.

This could create a true signature dining locale in Bristol!
Even if we have limited open space where the river is, having businesses there that are not taking advantage of the site seems such a waste…while the riverwalk in San Antonio seems to go on forever, it’s still the small places along it that make it so enjoyable. I have a picture of a little cafe with different color cafe umbrellas…can’t add it here, yet it’s the idea of creating that certain look that draws your eye and makes you want to be part of it.
Ever since I moved back to the area I’ve wished I could buy the Tinty’s building myself and do something incredible with it. Maybe turn it into a restaurant/pub and somehow open up sections of the flooring to expose the river underneath. I think it’s so unique and appealing that the building can be entered from either side of the river. With some creative renovations perhaps the building could be opened up a bit, give it an airy feel. Maybe have an area in the middle that’s completely exposed, with a little footbridge spanning the river. Not sure what the engineers would say about that, but I think it’s worth exploring!!
Think Apricots in Farmington: they have an outdoor eating area along the side of the Farmington River; think Mill on the River in South Windsor… People travel from all over to go to these unique places to eat. In addition there’s space for private parties, wedding receptions (think of all the folks that have their wedding pictures taken at the Memorial Park)…
