Per Bristol Rising member Barbara Brady…

She visited Infinity Music Hall & Bistro in Norfolk, CT and loved it — thinking perhaps a venue/establishment like this would be great to have as part of Bristol’s new Downtown mix. What do you all think?!

Here’s a little bit about the place from their web site:

“Built in 1883 in picturesque Norfolk in northwest Connecticut, Infinity Hall is an intimate music, dining and entertainment destination beyond compare. Newly renovated, the historic building features its original proscenium stage and wood, as well as many other notable details. Whether it’s dinner and a show, high quality casual dining or simply drinks and music you’re seeking, Infinity Music Hall & Bistro can provide it.

The music hall seats 300, ensuring each and every seat provides front row entertainment. Newly renovated, the hall hosts more than 200 music and entertainment shows by quality national and regional artists annually. Infinity Bistro, the music-themed restaurant and bar, serves gourmet delights and spirits.”

Please check out–and LIKE–my new entry for a real, non-theoretical “intimate live music venue.” Fellow Riser Mike Seery and I are making live music available to Bristol ALREADY, through our lighter, quicker, cheaper Ingraham House Concert Series. We’re poised to up the ante, but we need your support to make it happen! Thanks!

Seems like a pretty cool, eclectic place that marries art w/ live music. Here’s their Web site http://www.thespace.tk/index.html
    and an excerpt about them:

The Space (since 2003) exists to build a safe, positive community for people of all ages through music and the arts. Physically, we are a listening room venue located in an unlikely industrial park in a sleepy suburb of New Haven, Connecticut. So we definitely have that whole mystery thing going for us.

We’re somewhat small in venue size (150 capacity), but we house a whole lot of love and a whole lot of decorations. You can spend a few months mentally cataloguing all the weird random things hanging from our walls and ceilings. We have a large stage that is the focal point of the room. We have a Vintage Boutique (The Attic) and 80s arcade upstairs. We also have a Cafe that serves awesome food and there is an expansive outdoor patio area that has comfortable seating.

The Space is basically halfway between an underground arts collective and a sticky floor rock venue. There’s carpet, A checkered Floor and a staff of awesome people. There are velvet couches crazy lamps and over 50 different flavors of tea. There’s also rock and roll, folk, acoustic orchestras, independent film, SKA, experimental, indie shows, and more happening on our stage. We have hosted hundreds and hundreds of national, regional and local bands since we opened in early 2003. We are excited to announce that we will be opening a second stage in early 2011. We are a venue run by musicians for musicians and we go out of our way for our community and scene.

places like Infinity Hall are made by people with vision..that place was a rat trap..now it is truly a wonderful venue. I’ve also been to the Iron Horse. Simple venue, folks…How nice it would be to find or create a place like these venues, yet unique in it’s own right. LOVE THIS IDEA!

  4. This is definitely something we’ve been missing in Bristol. I’ve got tons of friends with a tremendous amount of talent but no venue for them to showcase that talent locally. Myself included, I’ve worked on several projects with different musicans but finding a place to perform live in Bristol has always been a struggle.

  1. A few things to keep in mind. Toad’s is in a city of over 100,000. In addition it is right across the street from Yale University, about 3 miles from SCSU, 6-7 miles from UNH, and 7-8 miles from Quinnipiac U. They have a built-in demograohic for live music in place. Infinity is a good model in that it is in the middle of nowhere with no highway access just like Bristol. However, the theater was already in place there. They just needed to refurbish it. We’d have to have something built from scratch and a concert hall facility, even one holding only 300 would be quite expensive. I think a large multipurpose establishment that could be used for small concerts, dancing, dinners/banquests, etc. would be used more regularly and provide a steadier stream of income.

  3. Bristol is the only place, within the surrounding towns, that doesn’t have a venue for local performers. If this was done correctly, Infinity Hall could be a fantastic thing. It would draw in numerous crowds from nearby communities as well as, help support musicians that don’t always get the chance to get on stage.
Also, another thing to keep in mind is that most people like to go out to eat before they go to a concert, if not get something afterwards. By building this, not only would it benefit the performing arts, but it’d also contribute to flourishing new cafés and restaurants. This could be a very good thing for downtown.

  4. If we cannot get live music we can always make our own LOL

  5. I know some live bands that would play there!

  7. How about something along the lines of Toad’s Place in New Haven.

Here’s a link to their Web site, and a short exerpt about the place:
    http://www.toadsplace.com/

Toad’s Place has been hoppin’ since 1975, establishing itself as one of the premier music halls in the country. Virtually every major touring act has appeared on Toad’s stage in the past twenty years.

Toad’s place remains a favorite venue for many of the megastars when they wish to perform in a smaller, more intimate atmosphere where they can be closer to their fans. For this very reason, The Rolling Stones chose to kick off their 1989 “Steel Wheels” tour at Toad’s Place!

How has Toad’s managed to stay on top for all of these years? It’s simple… We at Toad’s Place realize that everyone doesn’t like the same kind of music! In any given month, Toad’s features a broad spectrum of live performers, as well as some of the most talented DJs on the East Coast. Rock and Roll, Blues, Reggae, Techno… We have it all, from classic favorites to the most exciting new talent!

  9. Music is the universal language, we definitely need a place like this for music, local and beyond!

  10. this would be great in downtown Bristol – Food vendors and a bistro inside like Infinity – Other than bands, you could have comedians and plays – anything – we NEED this – Look what it did for Norfolk and they are not close to a highway !

  11. Another possibility is for the live music venue to also serve as a small movie theater.

  12. This is a great idea! A live music venue would be fantastic here in town.

  13. This is definitely something we’ve been missing in Bristol. I’ve got tons of friends with a tremendous amount of talent but no venue for them to showcase that talent locally. Myself included, I’ve worked on several projects with different musicans but finding a place to perform live in Bristol has always been a struggle.

  14. With a local music kiosk!

  15. this is such a good idea for bristol it gives us inspiring artista to have a place to go and do things where we can actually express ourselves

  16. I amazed at how many people in Bristol perform in some form or another, and how many bands are from the area. We are a community that is very rich in talent that just needs to be focused! This is an excellent way to do it!

  17. There is alot of local bands in CT that I am sure would love to get an opportunity to be heard and play at a venue like this. And I agree with Evan, we don’t need to have all the bells and whistles. Some of the smallest bars in CT have great band areas.

  18. We have a lot of local talent- knew a lot of great musicians and singers from my years at high school alone, so it seems natural that we should have something like this.

Plus, Bristol lacks high-quality restaurants. It doesn’t need to be 5-star quality (though that would be nice), but we could use some places that are a step above the traditional diner. As far as I know, Carmine’s is the best-quality restaurant we have.

  19. I think this is a great idea! I love Infinity, I think something like this would be a great addition to Bristol.

  20. Yes, we ABSOLUTELY need more space for music!

  21. Iron Horse is cool. This idea is awesome.

  22. Would love to have a place for live music – indoor or outdoor in Bristol…we deserve to have a summer music festival or some summer concerts put on by the town…plus it’s a source for revenue for food vendors, etc. Infinity Hall is a great model! Indoor would combine the need for more non-chain food establishments as well!

  23. Do you have any pics of it that you can post?

  24. Another source of inspiration along these lines is The Iron Horse in Northhampton, MA. One of the best venues to see live music. I’ve seen Indigo Girls, Brad Meldau, and Southern Culture on the Skids there and they were all packed and they get other great talent of all genres coming through there.
