This would be a state of the art facility designed for basic (learn to skate) levels, figure skating, ice hockey, elite events, perhaps the upper tier regional juniors tournaments, possible paralympics regional site, etc,. Please go to the outdoor rinks link and take a few minutes to read my experience with playng/managing and coachng a facility. This would be a superb draw to the downtown site for 6 months a year. In the warmer months the rink could be thawed to allow for lacrosse (which is the fastest growing sport) soccer or other venues

Richard, thanks for posting this!
This would also allow for an increase in the popularity of hockey, and perhaps even high school level teams for BEHS and BCHS to compete with other high schools.
An indoor rink could also compete against some of the other ice centers nearby, e.g. Simsbury, drawing some of the international competition crowd to a lower-priced location. Synergy might develop between the facility and ESPN.
Also, there is a need for rinks that offer advanced but non-pro skaters ice time at reasonable hours. West Hartford’s the only rink in the region that does that!
I think this would be a really good facility to put in the former Center Mall site, perhaps in combination with a few other indoor sports facilities.
This would be a nice thing to have in town because, now, people have to go all the way out to Newington if they want to use an indoor skating rink. Also, this skating rink would not only reel in many people from Bristol and surrounding towns, but it would bring widespread activity to the city in the form of tournament visitors and others.
Would there be enough room for this and a go-cart track? I think stuff like this, stuff that really isn’t in the area and will bring people togather would be great. We really don’t need any more housing, bars and other things that are already adequate in Bristol. Build stuff like this downtown, get some small shops and decent restaurants in the older buildings downtown and people will want to live in existing housing in that area and many that don’t will go down there to spend money.
Wonderful idea. Bristol needs attractions to bring people to Bristol and this would work!
Perhaps this would be better suited for an area like where Shaws used to be located rather than downtown itself.
