Bike Path from Downtown Bristol to Plainville

134 people liked this

Bike trail from Depot Square/Rail station along the river and eventually traveling all the way to Plainville center. This would tie it in to the existing Farmington Canal Rail To Trail bike trails currently in use or under development. There is great area east of Forestville that is owned by the state and has had a lot of habitat improvement work that could benefit from access, such as a bike trail.

  1. If you reroute the train tracks roughly from Barlow Street to Main Street, running them down Park Street and School Street. You can have commuter rail service to New York and Hartford that goes by Muzzy Field and also stops at the Renaissance Downtowns development and in Forestville Center. Then use the old railbed as a 3-mile bike trail connecting Rockwell Park to Birge Pond, and then to the new downtown development with only one street crossing (Route 6 near Maple Street). Look at it on Google Maps and you will see why this makes sense.

  2. Absolutley I hate driving somewhere so i can go for a run or bikeride…seems so silly!

Bristol with its large population needs bike and multi-use trails. This is a great idea! Most of the surrounding towns are taking advantage of these great trails.

  1. Love this idea! My husband and I can’t go with all the grandchildren now as to having to haul bikes and kids to Farmington. If a trail is in Bristol we can ride our  bikes again as a family!!!!

  4. Great idea. If you can get to Planville, then you’ll eventually be able to get to MA and southern CT by bike!

  5. Bristol, with its primarilly suburban demographic would probably not benefit from the cost of this. There are plenty of side roads to ride bikes on.
