Anything having to do with Bristol Rising or Downtown Revitalization!
Wanted to share an article with everyone regarding the importance of grocery stores to an area! I know this one specifically talks about ‘upscale grocery stores’ but the principles are pretty much the same as long as you have a desirable one.
Here’s an excerpt from the article:
Real estate value goes up when upscale grocers move in
High-end grocers can improve a community’s real estate value, studies show. In addition, the presence of a Whole Foods Market or Wegmans Food Markets store can attract business to a depressed area. Detroit officials are hoping that will be the case when Whole Foods opens a store in an area of the city with many abandoned properties. WTOP-FM (Washington, D.C.)
I guess we’re on the right path! Here’s the link to the story! http://www.wtop.com/?nid=249&sid=2785927
upscale is OK but need variety of prices.
as downtown denizen would enjoy a place nearby can run into for a soda and a takeout sandwich or some groceries to take home.
Absolutely. Are you aware of the new Bristol’s Marketplace opening on the memorial boulevard side of the Tinty’s building? They are going to have some price aggressive options, organics, and even a deli.
But it shows that no area is going to thrive with critical mass and attract residents to live there without having a grocer there – just ask Hartford.
The Market Place grocer will be a great addition to this side of Bristol. So many residents that live on Cedar Lake, Indian Trail, Fall Mountain Rd areas do not have anywhere to do their grocery shopping unless they go out to Farmington Ave. Many of these people are excited to see a grocer that features a deli will be right in the downtown. Discussions of getting their groceries then stopping by and getting a bite to eat has been a common thread that I have been hearing. Once some of the downtown living units have been built, those living there can easily walk over to get what they need instead of dealing with the traffic on Rt 6. Just think how they can walk over every other day and get fresh produce, meats, poultry etc to make for dinner that night instead of pulling something out of the freezer! Can’t wait for it to open. It’s definitely a piece of the puzzle needed to tie it all together.
